15 minutes of guerrilla warfare between Roma and Napoli ultras. One injured, in a non-serious way: it is a Romanist ultras who suffered a stab wound, is hospitalized in Arezzo and is not in danger of life: he was arrested for aggravated brawl. A1 motorway traffic haywire for at least a couple of hours and closed in a northerly direction for 50 minutes.
At the end of the day: there are 115 Roma ultras identified by the police in Milan, as for the Napoli fans, the 80 who had made their way to Genoa for Sampdoria-Naples were identified: of the latter, four had forced their way through a checkpoint in Genoa Nervi and were chased and stopped by the highway: in their car they have been found iron bars.

This is the outcome of the crazy day at the Badia al Pino service area heading north.

It all starts at 1.30pm, when – as the police explain – “about 350 Napoli fans heading to Genoa stopped in the Badia al Pino service area heading north”. As per practice, the agents closed the entrance “to the service area to prevent a group of Roma supporters who had been heard of, in transit along the same itinerary, from coming into contact with the Neapolitan supporters”.

Instead, the Roma fans learn of the presence of the Napoli ultras in the service area, and decide to “stop at the rest area while a part of the Napoli fans positioned themselves along the fence, has begun a dense throwing blunt objects towards cars on the roadway”.

This is how the guerrilla began: “Both groups moved in a few seconds to the height of the autogrill exit and came into contact for a few minutes; a Roma supporter was wounded with a stab weapon and is in yellow code “.

Then “the Roma supporters left after about 15 minutes, while the Neapolitan ones remained in the service area and were subsequently escorted to Genoa by police force personnel”.

Meanwhile, the investigators are viewing the video material to identify all those responsible.

Traffic, initially interrupted on the A1, was then reactivated, but it took time to dispose of the 15km queue which were created in the direction of Florence between Monte San Savino and Arezzo.

The bitterness between the two fans has never subsided since he was identified and convicted Daniel De Santisformer ultras of Rome, for the murder of Cyrus Esposito occurred near the Olympic stadium on May 3, 2014.

“I was in the middle of a fight, I got scared and I shot” confessed De Santis. “Unfortunately a boy died, but I didn’t want to kill”. After a long trial, she was sentenced by the Third Court of Assizes in Rome to 26 years’ imprisonment and compensation of 140,000 euros to the Esposito family. Two Napoli fans, Gennaro Fioretti and Alfonso Esposito were also convicted with him: eight months’ imprisonment for aggravated brawl and injuries.

The service station where the accidents took place is the same where the Lazio fan was killed Gabriel Sandri in 2007.

Abodi: “They are not fans but criminals, those who make mistakes pay”

“There is an abysmal difference between fans who go to the stadium, at home or away, to sing, hug each other, rejoice or suffer for their team and the criminals who clash in a motorway service station, creating problems for decent people . There is nothing worse than defining the latter as fans, there is no greater mistake than lumping all the grass together”

Thus the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, who added: “In 2023, those who make mistakes pay and I hope it will also happen for the hooligans who clashed today on the A1”.

Firm position taken by the mayors of Rome and Naples, Roberto Gualtieri and Gaetano Manfredi: they published a tweet with identical text to condemn the violence

The clashes on the highway between Napoli and Roma fans are unacceptable. We hope that law enforcement will identify and punish those responsible as they deserve. These are not real sportsmen! Rome and Naples are friendly cities that say No to senseless violence.
