Helldivers 2: the PSN account on PC is no longer mandatory, Sony has changed its mind after protests

The great battle waged by PC users of Helldivers 2 against the decision to make thePSN accounts was finally won, it seems: Sony changed its mind and has removed the need of the link between your PlayStation and Steam accounts.

With a post published on links between accounts scheduled to start from May 30th, will not take place.

“We have heard your feedback on linking Helldivers 2 accounts,” wrote Sony PlayStation, “The May 6 update, which would require linking Steam and PSN accounts for new players and current users starting from May 30th, it will not be carried out”.

We’re still learning what’s best for PC gamers and your feedback has been invaluable,” Sony then added in the public message, “Thank you for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we will keep you updated on future plans.”

A battle won by users

Helldivers 2 and Sony had come under considerable fire from users

It therefore seems like this is the end of a story that has characterized the gaming scene these days: Sony had established within this month the need to connect Steam and PSN accounts in order to continue playing Helldivers 2, bringing out a need that, in according to what the company reported, it had always been present but simply interrupted during the launch window.

PC users immediately triggered a notable protest against the initiative in question, manifested through review bombing and messages on Reddit and various social networks, not only due to concerns related to the need to use an additional account to be able to play Helldivers 2, but also due to the impossibility of creating PlayStation accounts in the numerous countries where PSN is not available.

In the end, the battle of PC users seems to have reached a victory, with Sony forced to retrace its steps and remove the mandatory PSN account, probably also thanks to a work of mediation carried out by the Arrowhead team itselfwhich on this occasion demonstrated its willingness to actively support the players’ requests.

In recent hours, to try to put a stop to the chaos created and the numerous refund requests arriving en masse on Steam, Sony had removed Helldivers 2 from sale in over 170 countries not reached by the PSN, but the issue should be resolved or stabilized in the next few hours, at this point.
