Increasing cases and worrying numbers: the ISS no longer has doubts about the epidemic | Italy trembles again

The data is starting to cause more than a few concerns in several Italian regions. Here’s what’s happening at the beginning of 2024

There Health it is one of the topics of extreme interest on a collective level. The last few years have been very troubled from this point of view and for this reason people are easily alarmed when they hear about possible new epidemics.

The Covid it left heavy consequences from many points of view and this certainly does not bode well for the rest. Precisely in this phase, in fact, theHigher Institute of Health published data that raised the alert for a moment.

There are those who are already talking about epidemic, but as already mentioned it is better to be careful since there is a real risk of creating unnecessary and harmful tensions. Obviously there is a problem, but it is best to analyze it with due caution.

THE data collected by the ISS they refer to the first quarter of 2024 which is why it is still rather premature to venture hypotheses. At the same time, however, it is information that makes experts on the subject reflect.

Measles: the Italian regions most affected in this phase

In fact, there were 213 reports of measles of which 181 cases were laboratory confirmed, 9 were defined as probable and 23 were possible cases. 88% of those reported were not vaccinated at the time of infection and the average age of those affected was 31 years old. This is probably the most thought-provoking fact given that this pathology usually affects children and adolescents.

The region most decimated in this sense is the Lazio with 44.9 cases per million inhabitants. Behind we find the Sicily and the Tuscany. Put all three together they recorded 68% of the cases detected in our country in the period from January to March 2024.

Not just Italy: other parts of the world at risk

This situation, however, does not only concern theItalybut rather the wholeEurope and also theAsia. On the continent located in the eastern part of the planet in 2023 according to the Unicef ​​data a total of 30,601 cases were found while in the same period of 2022 there were 909 verified infections which means that there was a percentage increase of 3.266%.

As a result, several epidemiologists are starting to talk about measles epidemic and everything is monitored with extreme attention as well as the dengue and the disease X announced some time ago. The latter in particular is quite worrying experts on the subject.
