If Bruckheimer therefore does not seem willing, in the short term, to “wait” for Tom Cruise’s many commitments for a reboot of “Top Gun”, for “Pirates”, the Disney team seems to be intent on starting from scratch. Starting with the cast.

Disney looking for new ideas

It’s been almost seven years since the last “Pirates of the Caribbean” film was released in theaters and Disney is still looking for new ideas to ride the highly successful franchise. There have reportedly been many proposals, including an all-female film, with Margot Robbie in the lead role and a plan to bring Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow back to the cast. As it stands, however, it seems that the plan for a new film in the saga is moving towards a total reboot phase, starting over with new ideas and new characters.

What direction this new beginning will take is still a question mark. A film with Margot Robbie cannot be completely ruled out yet, although, the huge success of “Barbie” has made things more complicated. What is certain is that there will be big changes.

Not long ago the creator of “The Last of Us”, Craig Mazin, started working on a story for the new “Pirates” together with the original screenwriter Ted Elliot. However, the project was put on hold due to last year’s strikes, but Mazin told the LA Times that their script was very strange and that Disney seemed to like it.

“We launched it and thought no one would believe it… it was too strange. And yet they believed it! And then we wrote a fantastic script but there was a strike and now everyone is waiting for the sequel… .”, Mazin explained.
