Show in the queen stage of Tour of Romandie 2024. Upon reaching the summit of Leysin, Ineos Grenadiers makes fire and conquers the leadership in the general classification with Carlos Rodriguezbut partial success goes to a super Richard Carapaz. Two years later, the EF Education – EasyPost Olympic champion returns to win in a World Tour race.
The first phase of the race was full of shots and counter shots, in the end an attempt by seven men went away: Raul Garcia Pierna (Arkéa – B&B Hotels), Nelson Oliveira (Movistar Team), Bart Lemmen (Team Visma | Lease a Bike), Juri Hollman (Alpecin – Deceuninck), Josef Cerny (Soudal Quick-Step) and Dorian Godon and Clement Berthet (Decathlon AG2R La Difesa Team).
The Ineos Grenadiers were very active in the group and gradually closed the gap, reaching the last of the brave ones, a wild Berthet, at the beginning of the final ascent. Great action for the British team which saw Egan Bernal try to launch Carlos Rodriguez in the general classification key, but the right shot was that of Richard Carapaz.
The Ecuadorian of EF Education – EasyPost separated everyone but, when everything seemed to be done for a beautiful solo victory, the surprising German arrived at triple speed Florian Lipowitz (Bora-hansgrohe) who really had to give up by centimetres. Third was an excellent Rodriguez at 10″ who took the lead in the general classification, while then Enric Mas (Movistar) and Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora-hansgrohe), the closest to the leadership, 7″ behind. Collapse instead for Juan Ayuso who in the Yellow Jersey paid for several seconds, losing first place in the classification.
