Endowed with great sensitivity but equally fragile, Gianluca Grignani wrote some of the most beautiful pieces of Italian music. The artist has never hidden that he has been through very hard times, but now he seems to have come out of it stronger than before. Milanese, born in 1972, since his adolescence he began studying guitar, at the same time starting to write his first pieces. Among the artists who influenced him in his journey were the Police, I Nomadi, the Beatles, Lucio Battisti and above all Elvis Presley.
He then continued his studies at the CPM of the Lombardy capital. At the beginning of the 90s, he met Massimo Luca and Vince Tempera who, after discovering his great talent, began to propose him to various record companies. To have the best is PolyGram, which signed him in 1994 and made him participate in Sanremo Giovani with La mia storia tra le dita, today one of its workhorses. A few months later, he made his debut at the Festival in the new proposals with Destination paradise, which immediately proved to be a huge success.
His first album takes its title from the hit and in just one year it sells 2 million copies, also making him win the Telegatto as Revelation Artist of the Year. Fame, however, is not easy for him to bear, and shortly afterwards he suddenly disappears from the public scene. His return took place in 1996 with the second album The Plastic Factory, which differs from his previous works and displaces industry critics. Yet, as told in a recent interview, it was precisely this change of direction that saved him. Not only that, but Gianluca Grignani also had his say on the decision made by his young colleague, and he used rather strong words.

Grignani’s success in the 90s was immense. Seen as a modern Lucio Battisti, his popularity exploded overnight, in the space of a few months. “If he had experienced what I experienced at the beginning, he would have died of fatigue by now. I experienced something that was drunk in Italy in Celentano’s time and which was never seen again: when I went to present the records, the cities came to a standstill due to the crowds. But I understand it.” the singer said. The Milanese singer himself confessed that it is a miracle that he is still alive: “At a certain point I thought I had to die to be understood” he declared to the journalist of the Roman newspaper. Gianluca will soon go on tour in South America with Residui di Rock n’Roll, and has made no secret of his desire to play on the stages of European rock festivals.
