Kate Winslet is Lee Miller in Lee, the biopic
Another day, another major biopic not to be missed. This is Lee, the biopic in which Kate Winslet plays Lee Miller, correspondent from the Second World War front for British Vogue, when the magazine was directed by the formidable Audrey Withers, in a film directed by director Ellen Kuras. (Kuras previously worked with Winslet on If you leave me I delete youfor which he worked as director of photography.)
The drama – as can be seen in the first official trailer recently online – is inspired by the biography The Lives of Lee Miller by Antony Penrose – who is Miller’s son with her second husband Roland Penrose, a historian and champion of the Surrealist movement. Writer Liz Hannah is writing the screenplay in collaboration with The Lee Miller Archives.
Leethe plot and the cast
The film therefore tells the life of Lee Miller (Kate Winslet), a model who discovered a passion for photography and became a war correspondent and photographer during the Second World War. According to the first production notes, the film will focus not only on the war conflict but also on the hunt for the truth by a woman full of energy, who was forced to pay a very high price when she revealed a secret concerning a trauma experienced during the ‘childhood. In the film it will also emerge between Miller and her son Antony Penrose (Josh O’Connor), who also became a photographer.
In the cast we also find other big names: Marion Cotillard (who will be the director of Vogue Solange D’Ayen), Andrea Riseborough (as the journalist Audrey Withers), Andy Samberg (as the photojournalist David Scherman) And Alexander Skarsgård in the guise of Roland PenroseLee’s husband).
