The revenue forecasts for the new film directed by Costner are not very good and he will now have to advance more of his own money
Just like Francis Ford Coppola and his Megalopolisit seems that Kevin Costner is paying the marketing costs of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 out of pocket.
This was all part of the agreement that Costner had made with Warner Bros for the theatrical distribution of the film. According to the latest updates, Costner invested $38 million out of his own pocket to finance the $115 million film, not counting the second chapter, due out in August, also three hours long, which is said to have cost slightly less ($80 million).
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 has had a rocky start at the box office so far. The Western Civil War epic it only raised $3 million Friday and could have a three-day opening weekend under $10 million.
What does Horizon say?
Set in the American West at the time of the Civil War, fought from 1861 to 1865, the film which sees Costner’s return to directing tells American expansion of the West in a comprehensive story of how the United States came to stretch from one ocean to another.
Horizon, how much money will Kevin Costner lose? The revenue forecasts are terrible
In the grand tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, the saga explores the allure of the Old West and how it was won through the blood, sweat and tears of many.
While you can already read our review of the first chapter of Horizon: An American Saga on these pages, remember that this first chapter of Costner’s western epic will arrive in Italian cinemas on July 4, 2024.
