Always attentive to new releases and the rankings of the most viewed on Netflix, we often run the risk of missing out on real gems hidden within the catalog of the popular platform. Here are our recommendations on 5 Netflix films that we highly recommend you watch!

In Nobody knows I’m here (2020), the Chilean director Gaspar Antillo takes us into the solitary and routine life of Memo, a former child prodigy who has put aside his dream of becoming a singer forever. The meeting with Marta will allow him to overcome his traumas and return to believing in himself. Produced by Pablo Larraìn and awarded at the Tribeca Film Festival, Antillo’s debut film (here you can read our review of Nobody Knows That I’m Here) stars Jorge Garcia, the legendary Hugo Reyes from Lost. Directed by Tamara Jenkins and starring Paul Giamatti and Kathryn Hahn, Private Life (2018) tells of a couple’s attempts to have a child, undergoing numerous fertility treatments. Various obstacles will test the fragile balance of these two New York couple, who will find a potential solution to their problems in the arrival of young Sadie.

Presented at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and winner of the Grand Jury Prize, I don’t feel at home in this world anymore is an original black comedy, the directorial debut of Macon Blair and starring a bizarre couple made up of Elijah Wood and Melanie Lynskey: after being robbed, the two shy and problematic neighbors Ruth and Tony will go hunting for the culprits, in an escalation of situations bordering on the absurd. The streets of evil (2020), an ensemble film directed by Antonio Campos, follows the events of numerous characters in a rural town in the Midwest where corruption and brutality dominate. The feature film (here you can find our review of The Roads of Evil), adaptation of the debut novel by American author Donald Ray Pollock, was also produced by Jake Gyllenhaal. The all-star cast includes Tom Holland, Bill Skarsgård and Robert Pattinson. Finally, we close with one of the most interesting horror films of recent years: present on the platform since 2020, His House went almost unnoticed and tells the story of a couple of Sudanese refugees who, once they arrive in the UK, find themselves forced to live in a dilapidated house, occupied by a sinister and malevolent force. The film is written and directed by Remi Weekes, here in his excellent debut behind the camera.
