Kinds of Kindness, Yorgos Lanthimos’ film arrives at the cinema after its presentation in competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival

The always feverish notes of Sweet Dreams (Are made of this) by Annie Lennox are the musical backdrop to the first teaser trailer of Kinds of Kindnessthe new film by Yorgos Lanthimos which marks his new collaboration with Emma Stone, fresh winner of the 2024 Oscar for Best Leading Actress in Poor Creatures!. The film – presented last May 17th in competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival – will be released in Italian cinemas on June 6th 2024.

More and more muse of the Greek filmmaker, Emma Stone – who will once again be directed by Lanthimos in the already announced Save the Green Planet! (remake of the 2003 Korean film directed by Jang Joon-hwan) – she opens the trailer with “Here we go, it’s the moment of truth” and ends it with the question “Isn’t it wonderful?”. What will happen in between? What suggests something to us are several frames, between color and black and white, where the cast of the film is also presented (lower budget and which was initially titled AND).

Kinds of Kindnessthe plot

Kinds of Kindness it’s a tale in three acts: a man with no choice trying to take control of his life; a policeman worried that his wife who disappeared at sea has returned and seems like a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific person with a special ability, destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.

The cast of the film

In addition to Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley – already featured in Poor Creatures! – in Kinds of Kidness Lanthimos also directed Jesse Plemons – winner of the Best Actor award at Cannes -, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie and Hunter Schafer. We still don’t know who will play who, but a curiosity comes from Dafoe (who we will also see in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2) who in an interview with IndieWire he said he let Emma Stone slap him twenty times to get into character.
