The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Andrew Garfield is often remembered as the worst ever of the Spider-Man saga, yet it has some truly wonderful visual sequences and obviously the emotional dramatic moment par excellence of the series, the death of Gwen Stacy by Emma Stone.

Speaking of this tragic sequence, also masterfully recalled in Spider-Man: No Way Home when Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker finds himself in a very similar situation but finally obtains the redemption he was looking for by saving Zendaya’s MJ, perhaps not everyone knows that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 cut a key scene which would have changed everything in the finale: in a preliminary cut it had been inserted right at the end, after Gwen’s funeral, while Peter is in front of his girlfriend’s tombstone.

In the deleted scene, Peter is joined from behind by his father Richard (played by Campbell Scott): not only would the twist have revealed that in reality the boy’s parent has always been alive and that throughout his life he has followed his son’s exploits from afar, but in the confrontation between the two who would Richard would later tell Peter the famous phrase ‘with great power comes great responsibility’which would have given the protagonist the strength to get back up and overcome this terrible moment (although based on what we know about the plot of the canceled The Amazing Spider-Man 3 it is possible that this Richard would have turned out to be a clone).
