The history of cinema is full of cases in which the opinion of critics did not go hand in hand with that of the spectators, with the latter often rewarding films previously demolished by reviews by elevating them to the rank of true cult: the titles that followed are very good examples.

Let’s start with a case that cannot help but anger Robin Williams fans: Hook – Captain Hook (in which Spielberg himself admitted that he didn’t have much faith) still represents one of the most beloved chapters of the Dead Poets Society star’s career, but without an amazing cast (among others, Julia Roberts and Dustin Hoffman stand out ) just failed to convince the critics (who, not surprisingly, gave it a dismal 28% on Rotten Tomatoes).

Let’s go back a few years with Rocky IV: this is perhaps the most iconic chapter of the boxer saga (along with, obviously, the first film in the series), in which it introduces the now epic rivalry between Sylvester Stallone’s character and Ivan Drago. However, the presence of too many stereotypes and a practically non-existent realism make it a film that the press has never managed to appreciate, despite the love of the fans.

A more recent case is the one that concerns Constantine: the film with Keanu Reeves was not treated particularly well by the specialized press at the time of its release in 2005, but over time it has gathered more and more acclaim from fans of a certain action/horror genre and, above all, of Keanu Reeves fans, whose popularity has increased exponentially over the years thanks to films like John Wick. So who will be right? The critics or the public? The arduous sentence is yours!
