A unrecognizable Russell Crowe appears in the first images of Nuremberg, a historical film focused on the Nuremberg trials and directed by James Vanderbilt. The photos released so far also reveal Rami Malekwho is also involved in the film which also stars Michael Shannon.
Nuremberg is the second directorial work of Vanderbilt, a very experienced producer and screenwriter who made his debut behind the camera with Truthstarring Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford, in 2015.
Based on the book by Jack El-Hai, The Nazi and the psychiatrist, Nuremberg tells the story of Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Kelley, an American military psychiatrist who finds himself on board a plane together with various Nazi officers taken prisoner. Kelley was the first Allied psychiatrist to evaluate various Nazi officers and the film will reconstruct the history of the Nuremberg Trials through his point of view. Rami Malek plays him, while Russell Crowe plays Nazi officer Herman Göring.

What happened in Nuremberg?
As he explains Colliderthe Nuremberg trials were “a double-edged sword”: if on the one hand he managed to shed light on all the atrocities committed by the Nazis during the Second World War, on the other hand he convinced public opinion that there was nothing left to worry about, which was not true. Director Vanderbilt, who is also writing the screenplay for Nuremberg, spoke about what attracted him to the film:
“I learned about the Nuremberg trials in school, so I knew the basic facts. But as soon as I read about the relationship between these two men (Göring and Kelley), I was really drawn to the idea of telling a personal story between them and how they collided at this crossroads of history.”
In the cast of Nuremberg we also find Michael Shannon, Richard E. Grant, John Slattery, Colin Hanks, Leo Woodall and Lydia Peckham. Speaking about the project Russell Crowe said: “Often the things that attract me These are the things that terrify me. I was impressed by the script and enthusiastically accepted, but in the end I was emotionally exhausted. How to interpret such a person? When I ask myself these types of questions, that’s usually what attracts me.”.
