As part of the eighth edition of the Riviera International Film Festival, in Sestri Levante from 7 to 12 May, the documentary will be screened out of competition on Friday 10 May at 5.15 pm at the Cinema Ariston in Sestri Levante Blue horizoncreated by Giulio Latini and dedicated to Riomaggiore, one of the towns in the Cinque Terre National Park, told through the eyes of yesterday and today.

The conference

The screening will be followed by the conference “Cinque Terre for four thousand plus three million”the epic tale
of a UNESCO heritage territory and its resilience to overtourism, in which the journalist Stefania Vitulli
will meet Elena Dell’Agnesepresident of the Association of Italian Geographers (Agei).

«What value do we give to the landscape? Understanding how people look at the territory, how they perceive the beautiful and the ugly, the same and the different, is a fundamental step in understanding how they will then behave towards it – reflects Dell’Agnese who, as well as being president of Agei, is ordinary of geography at the University of Milan-Bicocca –. This means studying geography, that is, trying to understand how we represent the “geo”, the Earth, and consequently what we love about that “geo”, what we want to visit, what we want to conserve and protect”.

The debate will also offer an opportunity to think about how to preserve the delicate balance between protection and development of the territory: it will be discussed with the mayor of Riomaggiore, Fabrizia Pecunia, revealing a new way of imagining tourism also in view of the next reopening of the Via of Love after twelve years.
