The star Chris Evansinterpreter of Captain America in the MCU, was forced to appear on social media to clarify an old photo that has resurfaced in recent days in which he is portrayed in the act of autograph what looks like some sort of grenade or a missile of some kind.
The image taken eight years ago began circulating on social media this week, leading some fans to mistakenly criticize the actor for autographing what they claimed was an Israeli bomb. However, in these the star of Captain America – who according to rumors will soon return to the MCU for a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine as The Human Torch – published his version of events via the Stories section of his official social network page Instagram, rejecting the accusations to the sender:
“There is a lot of misinformation surrounding this image. Some clarifications: This image was taken during a USO tour in 2016. I went as part of a group of actors, athletes and musicians in support of our active-duty Soldiers. The item I was asked to sign it is not a bomb, nor a missile, nor a weapon of any kind. It is an inert object used only for training or exhibition purposes. You can read the Air Force quote in the next article” he added, before sharing a screenshot of an Agence France-Presse article confirming his claim.
Reportedly, the photograph was taken when Chris Evans was in Türkiye to honor U.S. troops during a December 2016 holiday tour sponsored by the United Service Organizations. An air force spokesperson told AFP: “The item Chris Evans is signing in the 2016 USO tour photo is an inert object used for explosive ordnance disposal training. The item is meant to replicate an artillery shell and is for display and training purposes only”.
The controversy against Chris Evans comes in the wake of that of pro-Trump protesters against Robert De Niro.
