«He always had political messages»

Last weekend, fans of Star Wars Americans celebrated May 4th (lo Star Wars Day) in style, with the return to the big screen of Episode I: The Phantom Menace. For the occasion, some members of the cast had the opportunity to share their memories and opinions, also reflecting on the current state of the franchise.

In recent years, thanks to the mixed reactions to the new trilogy, a certain disaffection for the product seems to have spread, with many fans defining the new films and series too “woke” or “politically correct, placing the responsibility on Disney’s new management. But is it really like that?

To address the topic was Ahmed Bestone of the actors in the saga who suffered the most hatred from the hater online, having played the detested Jar Jar Binks in the prequel trilogy. The star, who has never hidden his negative experience after entering the universe of Star Warshowever, underlined how political messages are nothing new and have always been present in the creator’s intentions George Lucas.

He told ComicBook: «All those films have a strong political subtext. The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith were made in the George W. Bush era. There’s even a line from Anakin where he says, “You’re either with us, or against us.” And that is a direct reference to what was happening under the Bush administration.”

According to the actor, the saga of Star Wars in short, it would be imbued with profoundly political meanings, hence the spectators they should learn from it for the future: «I think that, watching these films, we must always remember that it is not just “a galaxy far, far away”. They are a representation of how history always repeats itself, and how we can influence it to turn to the dark side or the light side. These aren’t just films we watch because we like them: it’s a mythology we can learn from.”

What do you think? Do you agree with the actor’s words?
