A few days after the publication of the first images of Megalopolis and in view of the imminent debut of the film Cannes Film Festival 2024the French distributor Le Pacte has just released the first official trailer for the new film by Francis Ford Coppola.
In the promotional film, available in the post that you can find at the bottom of the article, the foundations are laid for the story at the center of Megalopolisthat of the ambitious and visionary architect Cesare (played by Adam Driver), which after the destruction of a metropolis similar to New York caused by a catastrophic accident wants rebuild the city as a utopian Megalopolis of the future: to do so, however, he will have to overcome his sworn enemy, the conservative mayor of the city Frank Cicero (played by Giancarlo Esposito), who would like to adopt a more traditional reconstruction strategy and perhaps encourage corruption and power plays which would obviously be to his benefit. Between the two men is Julia (Nathalie Emmanuel)the mayor’s young daughter in love with Cesare.
The film, which will also feature Laurence Fishburne as the narrator of the story, has been described as a vague retelling of Romeo and Juliet, with the love story between Cesare and Julia and the clash between their two families at the center of the plot. The cast also includes Aubrey Plaza, Chloe Fineman, Dustin Hoffman, Shia LaBeouf, Jason Schwartzman and Jon Voight.
