Director Barry Jenkins responded to some users on independent.

A few days after the release of the first trailer Of Mufasa: The Lion King, prequel coming to the cinema in Christmasthe enthusiasm was inevitably accompanied by the skepticismwith criticism aimed at an operation “soulless” and to the director Barry Jenkinsprize Oscar for an independent film like Moonlight and now working on a blockbuster for Disney. It was Jenkins himself who responded to some of these criticisms about X, directly to the users who had addressed them to him.

Mufasa: The Lion King is not far from the ropes by Barry Jenkins

Moonlight Of Barry Jenkins won three Oscar awards (best film, supporting actor and non-original screenplay), telling of a boy who lived between drug dealing and violence, with a sexuality expressed with difficulty in a hostile environment. Not all the audiences who loved that work understand why Barry Jenkins has now moved on to direct Mufasa: The Lion Kinga photorealistic CGI prequel to the remake of Lion King of 2019, at the cinema from 19 December: great production Disneystory of how theorphaned puppy Mufasa he fights his way to becoming the King, before even giving birth to Simba. Some, in addition to criticizing Jenkins, commented that this is yet another one soulless operation “by Bob Iger”, unsuitable for his talent. Barry doesn’t agree and replies on X:

There is nothing soulless when it comes to The Lion King. For decades, children have sat in movie theaters around the world, experiencing acollective mourning process for the first time, facing Shakespeare for the first time, in audiences who spoke myriad languages. A very powerful vehicle for acollective empathy. […]
Children have always been at the center of every single one of my projects since Moonlight until now, without exception. What the hell. You can say what you want about the movie, but tell ME I’m lying when I say something for kids matters to me… nah, bro.
