At the next Cannes Film Festival, Midnight Screenings section, the new film by Soi Cheang, one of the last masters of Hong Kong cinema, will be presented, which here pays homage to the local cinema of the Eighties and Nineties that we loved so much with mythical protagonists such as Sammo Hung and Louis Koo.

Among the films that will be presented in about a month to Cannes Film Festival 2024 it’s there in the section Midnight Screeningsthe one reserved for more explicitly genre films, a Hong Kong film with a high rate of martial arts entitled Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In.
This is the new work of one of the last great masters of what was once the great cinema of the former British colony, Soi Chengthe author of very notable films well known to fans of the genre such as Love Battlefield or Dog Eat Dogor more recently Limbo.
Already from the beginning of his career heir to the most glorious tradition of Hong Kong cinema, in this new film of his, judging by the original official trailer (with English subtitles) which we show you below, pays an explicit homage to the fantastic season of the eighties and nineties.

As you may have noticed, in the film’s cast there are two true legends of Hong Kong cinema such as Sammo Hung and Louis Koo. The project, in reality, has ancient roots, and over the years has interested directors such as John Woo and Johnnie Towhich they were supposed to co-direct, and other top names in the Hong Kong star system.
Adaptation of a Chinese comic by Andy Seto titled “City of Darkness”, Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In is set in the 1980s inside the Kowloon citadel, an all-Chinese enclave in Hong Kong still under the English crown and follows the story of a boy in difficulty who accidentally finds refuge in the citadel, “discovering order in the chaos and obtaining life lessons by the inhabitants who welcome him and help them, and who together will resist an enemy invasion”.
