In addition to having promised news on the way for his remake of Voyage Allucinante with Guillermo Del Toro, during his masterclass at the Cinemateque in Paris the director James Cameron also had the opportunity to discuss the film of the moment, that is Dune 2 by Denis Villeneuve.

The opinion of Cameron, widely considered an undisputed master of science fiction, interests us particularly, given that among our first reactions to the Warner Bros film we had promoted Dune 2 as a material response to the digital of Avatar 2, and now we can finally discover the opinion of the person concerned. Needless to say, James Cameron was a huge fan of Dune 2and so much so that in talking about the film he 1) threw a few digs at David Lynch’s original version and 2) revealed a personal secret that ties him to Denis Villeneuve.

David Lynch’s adaptation was very disappointing, for me. In my opinion, that film lacked all the strength of Frank Herbert’s novel. Villeneuve’s films are much more convincing, however. The characters are delineated, they are very identifiable. It’s pure cinema. I speak with Denis regularly, from director to director. If I may say so, we record our conversations, like Truffaut and Hitchcock.

Maybe one day we will see a film of these interviews, as happened with the legendary Hitchcock/Truffaut by Kent Jones? Hoping costs nothing. In the meantime, we remind you that Dune 3 is officially in the works at Legendary Pictures.

On The Naked Gun – Collection (Box 3 Br) It is one of today’s best sellers.
