Last night, Wednesday 3 April, ‘A World Apart’ was screened at the Multiplex in the Le Befane shopping center in Rimini. An evening enriched by the presence of great guests such as Virginia Raffaele, Antonio Albanese and director Riccardo Milani, united to present their new cinematographic work. This comedy, set between Rome and Abruzzo, offers an ironic and melancholy look at the difficult reality of provincial schools.

The film, the fifteenth directed by Milani, stands out for its evocative setting in the Abruzzo Apennines and for its mix of personal and universal themes. Through the character of Michele Cortese, played by Antonio Albanese, the film explores the theme of the depopulation of small rural and mountain villages, focusing on the struggle to avoid the closure of a multi-class school in the village of Rupe.

The presence of Ivan Graziani’s lyrics at the end of the film, in particular with the song “Agnese”, adds a touch of depth and nostalgia, paying homage to the rich cultural tradition of Abruzzo. Graziani, with his timeless music, blends perfectly with the theme of the film, which reflects on social change and the resistance of local communities in the face of modernization.

Milani, through his work, also aims to be proactive towards depopulation, highlighting the need to recover and preserve the territory. “Un Mondo a Parte” tackles current issues with lightness and comedy, maintaining an engaging pace despite some forced moments
