It seems that the dismantling operation of Private Division is not limited to the closure of internal teams, as recently emerged, but involves a deeper reduction in the division’s workforce by Take Twowho would have provided for the dismissal of most of the staff active within the label, as reported.
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, it seems that Take Two has effectively fired most of the staff working in Private Division, as well as having closed the Roll7 and Intercept Games teams, which is causing a stir considering the success achieved by the Kerbal Space Program series from part of the latter and the great critical acclaim for Roll7 games such as Rollerdrome and OlliOlli World.
The critical successes were not enough
Despite the results obtained on the critical front, evidently something hasn’t worked for Take Two from a commercial point of view, given that it seems to be proceeding with a systematic reduction of personnel for Private Division, with layoffs noted above all in offices in Seattle, New York, Las Vegas and Munich.
The label was founded in 2017 with the idea of ”publishing games by great talent in the growing landscape of independent development”, and so far it has indeed lived up to its mission with the launch of several titles of great interest in the landscape “indie“, even if the support of a publisher of this size makes the definition rather vague.
Last month, Take Two announced its intention to cut 5% of its workforce in a short time, around 600 people, and it seems that Private Division has been particularly affected by this initiative.
