European Rowing and Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Fiamme gold medals

At the European Rowing Championships which took place on the waters of the Maty-Éri basin in Szeged (Hungary), the bearers of the Fiamme Oro contributed to winning four medals, one gold, one silver and two bronze.

Also thanks to these podium placings, Italy placed third in the continental medal table behind Romania and Great Britain.

The most precious medal is the gold won by the crimson rower Niccolò Carucci with the men’s four sculls. The Italian quartet, completed by the Italians Panizza, Chiumento and Gentili, dominated from start to finish on a race course hindered by strong headwinds, ahead of Switzerland at the finish line, while the bronze went to Poland.

European rowing gymnasticsThe silver was won by our Giuseppe Vicino, who brought the four without to the second step of the podium, together with the Italians Lodo, ​​Abagnale and Kohl.

The two bronze medals came from the women’s eight, captained by the Fiamme oro athlete Veronica Bumbaca, and by Enrico D’Aniello, helmsman of the paralympic mixed Pr3 four.

At the European men’s artistic gymnastics championships, recently concluded in Rimini, the new Fiamme oro gymnasts Mario Macchiati and Lorenzo Casali, together with their national teammates Yumin Abbadini, Matteo Levantesi and Marco Lodadio, won a splendid bronze medal in the competition teams behind Great Britain and Ukraine.

European rowing gymnasticsThe women’s tournament is still underway with the historic double for Italy and the Fiamme oro. In fact, the Italians Manila Esposito and Alice D’Amato are both athletes of the State Police Sports Group and placed first and second respectively in the general competition Alla round.

Alice dedicated the medal to her sister Asia who during the race, when she fell back to the ground after a double jump, suffered a strong blow to her left knee, which had undergone ligament surgery.

The Manila medal is the tenth European gold in the history of Italian female artistic, the third in eventing after that of Vanessa Ferrari in Amsterdam in 2007 and Asia D’Amato in Monaco in 2022.

And it’s not over yet because next weekend the specialty finals and the team final are scheduled with Italy first after the qualifiers.
