If in March the top grossing distribution company in Italy was Warner, ad April the primacy passes to Universal which, thanks above all to the animation Kung Fu Panda 4 and the musical biopic Back to Blackcollects in the month 6.3 million euros for a market share of 21%, becoming the first box office distributor in our country.
In April Kung Fu Panda 4, a title released in the previous month (March 21st to be precise), managed to raise another 3.9 million euros, bringing the total takings to 11.4 million euros. A truly excellent result for the DreamWorks animation which therefore beats the result of the previous chapter of 2016 (8.6 million euros). A result that was not at all obvious given that the character of Po had been missing from cinemas for 8 years. The other two chapters had instead grossed 12.5 million euros in 2011 (Kung Fu Panda 2) and 17 million euros in 2008 (Kung Fu Panda).
Universal’s second highest grosser of the month was Back to Black, portrait of the singer Amy Winehouse signed by Sam Taylor-Johnson released on April 18th which, without popular names in the cast, collected 1,823,372 euros in the month reaching 1,962,137 euros today.
Behind Universal, the second grossing distributor in April is Medusa Film which, thanks to the numbers of A world apart (1 million admissions; only two other Italian films have reached this milestone after the pandemic), records revenue for 5.2 million with a market share of 18.5%. The podium closes Warner which, driven by Godzilla and Kong – The New Empire and since the debut of Challengers by Guadagnino, collects 4.5 million euros for a 15.3% slice of the overall box office.
In fourth position, however, Eagle Pictures with 2.8 million euros (9.6% share) and, in fifth place, 01 Distribution with 2.7 million (9% share).

Broadening our gaze to the results of first quarter 2024the best distributor for cash is Warner which from January 1st to April 30th raised 23.7 million (14% share). They follow the independent Lucky Red which is recording an excellent year with 20.1 million euros (12.1%) and, a short distance away, Eagle with 20 million (12%).
