As we told you a few days ago, director Francis Ford Coppola organized the first official screening of Megalopolis, his highly anticipated and mysterious film, and at the end of the event in these hours the first reactions of those present emerged.

The event, held at the Universal CityWalk IMAX Theater and designed for promote the film in search of a distributor (already talking about NEON or Focus), and which saw the participation of possible buyers, friends, the director’s family and other colleagues – including Angelica Huston, Nicolas Cage, Andy Garcia, Spike Jonze, Al Pacino, Jon Favreau , Colleen Camp, Roger Corman, Darren Aronofsky, Cailee Spaeny and cast members Shia LaBeouf and Talia Shire – it began with the reading of a letter from Coppola: “Dear friends: ‘I believe in America’. If I could leave you with one thought after watching my new film, it would be this: our founding fathers borrowed a Constitution, a Roman Law and a Senate to their revolutionary government without a kingtherefore American History could neither have taken place nor been successful without the guidance of classicism.”

When the lights came on, at the end of the screening (which lasted just over two hours, for what was defined as a ‘final cut’), a standing ovation greeted a Francis Coppola visibly overwhelmed by emotion: the project, on which the director has been working for 40 years and which he self-financed by selling his winery, is finally a reality. Andy Garcia, star of The Godfather: Part 3, stood up and pointed to Coppola: This gentleman is the reason why we all make cinema today“.
