The first full trailer of Mufasathe prequel version of Disney’s 2019 remake, The Lion King, will be released tomorrow, and now a new photo from the film shows the cub version of Simba’s father, whose story will be told in the feature film directed by Barry Jenkins, the director of Moonlight.

Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. lend their voices to the younger versions of the Mufasa and Scar characters, replacing James Earl Jones, the voice of Mufasa in the 1994 animated classic and the 2019 remake, as well as Jeremy Irons and Chiwetel Ejiofor for Scar. In the prequel to The Lion King, 4 famous characters and protagonists of the main film will also be part of the plot.

In 2022, clips of the film had already been screened at the D23 Expo, in which Rafiki (John Kani) is seen telling the story Mufasa story to a group of puppies. As it turns out in the story, the lion destined to become king was actually an orphaned cub who had to face the world alone until he found his own way to become ruler at the Rock of Kings: “In this place was born a lion without a drop of nobility in his blood, the lion who would change our lives forever.”

Barry Jenkins is enthusiastic about Mufasa and the possibility of making the film:“I had to do it, because when I was 14 I was raising two nephews and there was a videotape that we watched about 95 times in the space of two days. I was thinking about Mufasa and how he grows up: I’m not a king, I’m not a king Mufasa is great thanks to the family and friends he has with him.”.
