The biggest Ice Rink never set up in Milan with 1,300 m2 of frozen path, 1,500 m2 of scenography and a gigantic 18-metre tree of wonders with 15,000 led lights are the novelties of Christmas 2022 with Senstation on Ice.
In the year of the real restart, Piazza Duca d’Aosta sheds its skin to become one of the Christmas reference places for everyone, thanks to a village that evokes the typical settings of Nordic winter landscapes and offers sport and entertainment at no cost.
This is Senstation On Ice 2022, a great opportunity for the city: a winter village set up in Piazza Duca d’Aosta with the aim of supporting the redevelopment and enhancement of one of the most crucial and important places in Milan.
A suggestive scenography of lights welcomes a skating circuit never seen in the city in terms of shape and size and a smaller slope where the little ones can practice Snow Tubing and other attractions to spend fun moments with family or friends.
The scenographic aspect is completed by a creative lighting of the facade of the Central Stationwhich will thus be valued for the entire time span of the initiative.
The project was conceived and implemented by AADV Entertainmentan Italian company consolidated in the conception and production of original live entertainment formats.
The village
Christmas tree: the iconic element of Senstation on Ice, in the presence of which the entire village develops. It is an 18 m high tree designed in respect of the Christmas tradition which will be decorated with 15,000 LED lights.
Ice Rink: the ice rink, a real circuit, is the main attraction of Senstation On Ice and is accessible free of charge to all skaters. The public will be able to enjoy skating freely or attend special skating shows that will be organized.
For a fee, however, the possible rental of skates
Snow Tubing slope: it is accessible free of charge to all and can be covered with special inflatable donuts distributed free of charge at the service structure located next to the track itself.
A geodesic structure (“dome”) of 9 meters in diameter within which the public will be able to experience firsthand a virtual journey in Calabria thanks to a series of multimedia proposals designed to communicate the peculiarities of the Calabrian territory. Within this dome, named Extraordinary Calabria, seminars and contents will be organized on the theme of sustainable tourism, sport and culture.
A second smaller dome will host the Santa’s housededicated to the little ones, to collect letters and take one photo I remember. The inside of the dome will feature a scenography inspired by Calabria.
Appointments calendar
It begins on December 7th at 2 pm with the opening of the village. At 17in the presence of the authorities, the official opening of Senstation On Ice inside the dome Extraordinary Calabria; followed by the lighting of the Meraviglie tree, decorated with the soldanella flower, symbol of Calabria, and the performance on the Ice Rink of the ASGA figure skating schools in Como and ICE LAB in Bergamo. Following tastings of typical regional products.
December 8th at 5pm “The new routes of sports tourism between passion and business”
During this meeting, USSI will reward some journalists who have distinguished themselves in reporting on great sporting achievements
December 17th at 5pm“Extraordinary Calabria: between cinema, culture and promotion of the territory”.
December 19th at 5pm “Calabria, a journey into the exotic Europe”.
There are also free tasting activities, subject to availability, to which all those who use the attractions of Senstation On Ice will be able to access, through the delivery of a special chip in the shape of a soldanella.
The dates of tastings of the typical products of Calabria by Calabria regional cooks union: 7/8/9/10/17/18/19 and 20 December in the afternoon; 6 and 7 January 2023 in the afternoon.
Technology and materials
The lighting of the village is made using LED lights, a technology that guarantees a low energy impact. The scenography is made up of rental installations for the most part already existing, which will not be decommissioned and disposed of at the end of the initiative, but kept and reused on subsequent occasions. The Snow Tubing track is made of a special synthetic material, patented by the Italian company Neveplast, world leader in the sector. This technology allows you to practice winter sports anywhere at any time of the year, in a totally sustainable way.
The “chillers” (the motors used to power the skating rink) are of the latest generation capable of optimizing energy savings.
