They climb first Crocemosso and Oasi Zegna until you reach the pedalable climb of Nelva. Fast descent to Biella where the final climb of Oropa begins on the “classic route” already tackled on several occasions by the Giro d’Italia. In the first part you travel along flat, straight and normal-width roads dotted with common city obstacles in urban areas.

We continue strong with a second stage that can be divided into two and which includes the first uphill finish of this edition. The first 90 kilometers are rather easy, then the road climbs several times starting from Valdengo. After a quick up and down with no classified climbs, the first GPM will be Oasi Zegna (3rd category) followed by Nelva (other 3rd category). There shouldn’t be too many fireworks on these rough edges, but watch out for the ending. After the descent that leads to Biella, the final climb towards the Sanctuary of Oropa25 years after the memorable feat of Marco Pantani. A 1st category of 11.8 km at 6.2%. The last time it was faced was 2017 and it prevailed Tom Dumoulin.

The favourites
It is the first uphill finish, immediately on the second stage, so the men in the ranking will take to the field. The super favorite, once again, is Tadej Pogacar, who despite a messy team always manages to make the difference. Behind him is the Bahrain pair formed by Antonio Tiberi and Damiano Caruso. Of course we can’t forget Geraint Thomascaptain of the Ineos Grenadiers, as well as Attila Valter and Cian Uijtdebroeks of Visma. It deserves special attention Mauri Vansevenant of Quick-Step, but also Giulio Pellizzari of the VF Group – Bardiani. How much is the prize money?
For this 2024 edition the organizers have maintained the prize money of past years, with the winner of the Giro d’Italia who will earn around 265 thousand euros, even if we are still very far from the prize money offered by the Tour de France. 11 thousand euros to the winner of each single stage, 20 thousand euros to the super fighter.
