Arezzo, 01 July 2024 – “Castelfranco of Above and its very particular re-enactment”. This is how the video starts Wikipedrostage name of Pietro Resta, has been filming in the country on the plateau these days. A video between history and tradition, given that it also focuses on the “Game of the Ring”now in its fourth edition, scheduled for July 13 and 14. WikiPedro is a Florentine from Oltrarno who for some years, on Facebook has begun to tell the thousand stories and the many wonders and traditions of Florence and Tuscany, with the ironic and light-hearted attitude typical of Tuscans. Every week, with his traveling videos he reveals the small and large secrets of an extraordinary land.
After a brief historical excursus of the village, WikiPedro underlined the points of contact between Castelfranco and the capital of Tuscany, starting from the architect Arnolfo Di Cambio. There was also a reference to the Arnolfo Tower, from which you can glimpse the wonderful panorama of the Balze, to the Soffena Abbey and to San Filippo Neri. Finally, the Game of the Ring. It is the historical re-enactment in which the four goals of the town are challenged with ‘basket’ shots: Porta Aretina, Porta Buia, Porta Campana and Porta Montanina. The rules of the match include seven players against seven on an 18 by 18 meter pitch. The objective of each team is to pass the ball inside a ring placed three meters high in the center of the pitch, trying to score as many points as possible than the opponent in the two scheduled match periods of 20 minutes each. The playing field is framed by the Town Hall with the eighteenth-century fresco on the facade of the patron saint San Filippo Neri and the central Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. This year it will be held on July 13th and 14th. It is not the first time that WikiPedro arrives in Valdarno. His last appearance was just over a year ago in Montevarchi, to discover the Gioco del Pozzo. Among other things, he had already been to Montevarchi in December 2022, when in one of his typical videos he talked about some of the peculiarities of the city, such as the Capuchin convent, the Cassero, the Paleontological Museum, the Tempietto Robbiano and indeed… the Well Game. Appearances also in San Giovanni Valdarno, Masaccio’s cradle, where he shot mainly in the historic centre.
