A worker died this morning around 11am inside a winery along the Comiso-Chiaramonte provincial road, in the Ragusa area. According to an initial reconstruction, the man was crushed by an articulated lorry during a maneuver in the square belonging to the Avide company.

The death of the workers in Campofelice

The autopsy will clarify the causes of death of Giovanni Terrana, the 64-year-old worker who fell from a scaffold in Campofelice di Roccella. Terrana was carrying out some renovation work on a building when he suddenly lost his balance and fell 5 meters. One of the hypotheses is cardiac arrest, the autopsy will clarify whether the death is attributable to illness or to the fall from the scaffold. The Termini Imerese prosecutor’s office is investigating the case.

The investigations

On the construction site together with Giovanni Terrana there were his two sons who worked together with their father. Terrana fell from a height of approximately 5 meters. The ASP technicians are verifying the regularity of the assignment of the works and whether the safety regulations have been respected. It is also necessary to establish who the owner of the company is. The investigations are conducted by the Carabinieri of the Cefalù company and by the ASP technicians who carry out checks on construction sites. The medical examiner also attended the scene.

Citizen mourning in Campofelice

The mayor of Campofelice, Giuseppe Di Maggio, announced that on the day of the funeral he will declare a day of mourning. “Four months later, we are mourning another death at work. It is a painful moment for my town. We all know the worker. A good person. A good company man, always cheerful. We are truly devastated.” This is what the mayor said about the fatal accident at work that occurred in the town near Palermo. “These were and are very painful moments,” added the mayor who witnessed the rescuers’ intervention. “It all happened in the town center on Via Imera in a building that was being renovated. Many witnessed the tragedy that was taking place. It is not possible to die on the job. It is not acceptable.” Last February, another construction worker, Mario Cirincione, 49, died in Campofelice di Roccella, crushed by a wall that collapsed during work on a property in the countryside.
