The relaunch of the Metrò del Mare, the essential maritime connection service for Cilento, is suffering further delays. Initially scheduled for July 1, the start has been postponed probably to the middle of next month, pending the outcome of the tender. Currently, the only valid offer is that of Alicost, already a well-known operator in the area.

Alicost has submitted a bid for “lot 1,” which includes two main lines: the connection between Salerno and Cilento and the one between the Amalfi Coast and Cilento. The documentation is under examination by the tender commission, which is verifying all the administrative requirements.

Line 1 will connect the ports of Agropoli, San Marco di Castellabate, Acciaroli, Casal Velino, Pisciotta, Palinuro and Camerota on weekends, while Line 2 will operate from Monday to Friday connecting Salerno, Amalfi, Positano, Agropoli and San Marco di Castellabate.

Gigi Vicinanza, secretary of Filp Cisal Salerno, expressed strong criticism: “This umpteenth delay is a disgrace and a missed opportunity to decongest traffic towards Cilento. It is unacceptable that we remain stuck in bureaucratic delays that harm residents, tourism and the local economy. The Metrò del Mare is a necessity for the sustainability of traffic in the area”.

Vicinanza urged the competent authorities to speed up the procedures to make the service operational as soon as possible, underlining that “our region, citizens and tourists deserve more. We will continue to monitor the situation and push for this important service to be activated without further delay.”
