Garda in flood, sewer emergency: wastewater coming out of manholes

For over a month the level of Lake Garda has exceeded 130 cm. With the rains of the last few days the level has even registered an all-time record, touching 148.5 centimeters above the hydrometric zero.
This has caused a sewer emergency, since the collector that transports the waste water of the entire Garda, now obsolete, is unable to handle such large volumes of water.
The pipes of the wastewater transport system, which are destined for the Peschiera del Garda purifier, are in fact buried along the shore at a lower altitude than the lake level when it is above 130 cm. For this reason, the manholes burst due to the pressure of the water and, as reported by Corriere della Sera, they overflow together with the sewage materials.
The Corriere also reports a video complaint by Annamaria Schiano

This emergency is nothing new. For years, experts and representatives of local institutions have been reporting the need for a structural intervention to modernize the sewer system of Lake Garda. Despite this, bureaucracy and lack of funds have meant that numerous appeals have gone unheard. Now, with the levels of Garda reaching record levels, the situation has become unsustainable.
