Historic Center Residents: «’Shopping night’ is good but still many unsolved problems»

The residents of the historic center of Terni are once again making themselves heard, still dealing with missing reserved parking spaces and precarious security, especially at night. Applause instead for the ‘Shopping night’ initiative, which will liven up the city on the night of July 5th. Shutters pulled up for the start of summer sales for 55 shops.

Limited traffic areas «The initiative for the relaunch of commerce in the city center with the ZTL completely closed is appreciable, without creating inconveniences that have already largely occurred». However, there are still some problems that remain unresolved. «Finally – writes the committee – we have learned from the municipal administration and the trade associations a serious signal on the ZTL issue which, unfortunately, in the recent past has created very serious problems for resident families – the only true and constant ‘driving force’ of the city center – also for the benefit of our merchant friends whose main income derives from regular customers residing in the historic centre. The wise choice to keep the ZTL closed, finally listening to those who have been giving the best suggestions for over a year (also through reports and specific documentation) for a liveable centre, can be translated as a sign of maturity towards a delicate topic which finally listens to the numerous requests of our families”.

Residents’ problems However, problems such as reserved parking remain unresolved, “reduced and some even disappeared”. A topic which, according to the committee, “has not improved at all with the modification of the new Regulation, on which we had given our contribution through specific solutions which, hopefully, will soon be listened to”. The group of residents also asks for «greater transparency on the numbers of permits currently active, it is in fact not possible in any way and in any communication channel of the Municipality of Terni to have a daily update on the number of permits issued and active classified by category. It is therefore requested to publish and have easy public access to this information on the Terni Reti website”.

Security issue Incursions and thefts in condominiums and apartments, muggings in broad daylight, crime, fights and night-time break-ins in shops. This is the picture that emerges, once again, from the alarm raised by residents. «Knowing how to work on the mistakes of the recent past and listening to those who know these critical issues well can really make a difference and be of great help for our beloved city – they conclude – and for the revaluation of our city center which is constantly suffering both on the residential and commercial”.
