An imprudent Roman risks drowning on the beach of the Salute promenade in Fiumicino. Luckily he was rescued by lifeguards “Vittoria beach” and “La Bussola 4042” establishments.

In fact, it was just after 3.30 pm when a robust Roman, about 40 years old, dived in and swam over the cliffs protecting the beach. About 10 meters from the dams, where the seabed exceeds 3 metres, he got into difficulty and started waving his arms and shouting to attract the attention of the swimmers on the shore.

“I became aware of the difficulties of man – specifies Claudio Moretti, lifeguard at La Bussola – I immediately notified my colleague Francesco Spataro from Vittoria and we launched the rescue operation”.

Moretti rushed with difficulty over the cliff, where he was also injured, and threw a rescue “donut” which the Roman managed to grab while Spataro, on board the skate, reached him. Being very robust, the man held on to the handles of the skate and then headed towards the shore where in the meantime a human chain had been created that helped him reach the shoreline. At the same time, those present on the beach gave loud applause to the two lifeguards.

“Satisfied with the intervention – says Spataro – luckily everything went well. The guy first apologized and then thanked us.”

After sitting on the shore for a few minutes, the Roman walked away.

“Good, really good and professionally prepared – says Gregorio Falcone del Tufello – perhaps the rescued gentleman should have paid the two lifeguards for the coffee for the speed of their action”.
