PESCARA. Thirty men from the police forces will be assigned to control the Pescara area in the next few days. The prefect of the Adriatic capital announced it yesterday morning, Flavio Ferdanispeaking on the sidelines of the presentation of a protocol with the municipalities of the province, Val Pescara and the Vestina area, for “neighborhood control”. Also present were the police commissioner Carlo Solimenethe mayor of Pescara, Charles Masciand all the mayors of the municipalities involved.
The document provides for the exchange of information between citizens and law enforcement agencies. The Prefecture’s initiative took shape within a few days to deal with the risk of emergency security and social alarm after the latest wave of thefts recorded in the homes of the municipalities involved, 16: Montesilvano, Spoltore, Abbateggio, Alanno, Cepagatti , Lettomanoppello, Loreto Aprutino, Manoppello, Roccamorice, Salle, Sant’Eufemia a Maiella, San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore, Scafa, Serramonacesca and Turrivalignani.
The document intends to build a direct line between mayors, local police, carabinieri and the police, drawing on the reports of citizens, who will therefore have a central role in this initiative: the chain of information will start from them, which will then be precious for the forces of the order in the action to combat criminal phenomena.
Prefect Ferdani announced that to deal with the security emergency in Pescara, 30 new agents will arrive during the summer.
“We agreed, during the provincial committee for public order and safety, to intensify controls and this will be possible thanks also to the Ministry of the Interior, which accepted the request made in a shared manner”, were the words of the prefect Ferdani, “We will have a reinforcement of thirty units of men of the police force in the territory for the summer period. Furthermore, with the judiciary, Court and Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office we will start a process of discussion that involves young people to intercept”, continues the prefect of Pescara, “preventively all those situations of discomfort and potential danger that could lead to forms of violence. I can therefore announce today that we will sign a protocol in this sense in the coming days”.
How will the “neighborhood watch” work? «The mayors will have to raise citizens’ awareness and identify volunteers among them who will be part of a network that will report to a coordinator who will always be in contact with the police, local police, carabinieri and police», explains Ferdani.
In the meantime, checks will be intensified during the summer thanks to the thirty officers who will reinforce the current police force.
