For its XXXII edition, the festival Fano Jazz By The Sea confirms its international scope by offering a program spread over nine days – from July 20 to 28 – with 43 concerts (35 of which are free) and 150 musicians from Italy and abroad, who will perform in eight different locations, thus giving coverage to an event spread throughout the city in the Marche region, from the historic center to the seafront, with events from dawn to late at night.
The inauguration is hosted by the iconic Arco d’Augusto, where the funk trio will perform on Saturday 20 July The Next Movementan ideal preview of the concerts that will take place on the Main Stage of the Rocca Malatestiana from the following evening, starting with the performance of the bassist of African origin Richard Bona with the Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodriguezjoined by drummer Michael Olivera.
Monday 22nd July will be the turn of the oud player of Tunisian origin Dhafer Youssefwhich will present the recent project Streets of Minaretsa crossroads of sounds and cultures with inebriating Middle Eastern scents, while Tuesday 23 July will be the turn of the trio of the pianist of Armenian origin Tigran Hamasyan.
Absolute novelties for Fano Jazz By The Sea will be the Cuban cellist and singer Ana Carla Maza and the Spanish pianist Daniel Garciatwo names that hark back to the climate of Latin music, guests of the festival on the evenings of Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th July respectively. On Friday 26th the renewed Bathroom Plusnamely bassist Reid Anderson and drummer Dave King, co-founders of the group, joined by saxophonist Chris Speed and guitarist Ben Monder, the latter being David Bowie’s partner on his album Blackstar.
Finally, on Sunday 28th July, the usual closing party will take place at the Golena del Furlo in Acqualagna, with the participation of the French Lehmann Brothers to seal the passing of the baton with the Terre Sonore review.
But the 2024 edition of Fano Jazz By The offers, as usual, other and diversified sections, from Live In The City, with a concert at dawn on the seashore (Sunday 21st on the Sassonia Beach with the pianist Claudio Vignali), to Young Stage, a space dedicated to young talents, from Cosmic Journey, with performances by performers and DJs who mix jazz with electronic music, to Exodus Stage, a cycle of solo performances dedicated to the drama of migration hosted from 23 to 27 July in the former Church of San Francesco and in the Pinacoteca di San Domenico and whose protagonists will be the multi-instrumentalist of Kurdish origin Ashti Abdothe saxophonist Emi Vernizzithe bandoneonist and flautist Carlo Maverthe guitarist Alessandro Santacaterina and the violinist Agnes Friendspecialist of the hardingfele, the traditional Norwegian violin. The Green Jazz Village, set up in front of the Rocca Malatestiana, will maintain a central position in the structure of a Festival that has made sustainability and inclusiveness its cornerstones. And there will also be educational activities of the Music Campus and numerous collateral events.
