Viareggio Internship: PD proposes a museum to remember the disaster

“15 years have passed since that tragic night. A date which, with the whistle of every train that passes until midnight tonight, will reopen a wound that will never heal in the citizens of this beautiful city. This is why it is important to establish a museum dedicated to the memory of the victims of the 2009 railway massacre, with the aim of promoting railway safety. As the Democratic Party, we presented a bill signed by the PD parliamentarians of Tuscany a year ago both in the Chamber of Deputies and in the Senate: Emiliano Fossi, Marco Furfaro, Simona Bonafè, Federico Gianassi, Laura Boldrini, Arturo Scotto, Christian Di Sanzo, Ylenia Zaiuto, Dario Parrini, Silvio Franceschelli and Marco Simiani. The museum structure would be managed by a specific Foundation and subject to the supervision of the Ministry of Culture .

The museum would have multiple objectives: to spread knowledge of the causes and consequences of the accident, to pay homage to the victims and their families, to promote good practices and research to improve railway safety, to monitor the safety of the national railway system, to identify the most critical areas and propose solutions, to promote educational activities and to organize demonstrations, conferences, exhibitions and other events on the themes of railway safety. In addition, the museum would provide support to school and continuing education activities through its own educational and informative proposals.

The time has come to give substance to the work of the associations of the families of the victims of the massacre at the Viareggio station. For this reason, we expect full support from our colleagues in the majority to approve this measure already in the next budget”.

Thus the deputies and senators Emiliano Fossi, Marco Furfaro, Simona Bonafè, Federico Gianassi, Laura Boldrini, Arturo Scotto, Christian Di Sanzo, Ylenia Zscopio, Dario Parrini, Silvio Franceschelli and Marco Simiani.
