The ancient and ancestral magic of Cirò continues and regenerates itself, without time, noble land of thousand-year-old vines and universal homeland of that Luigi Lilio which, considered today among the most extraordinary Distinctive Identity Markers (MID) of a still unpublished and unexplored Calabria, almost 6 centuries ago gave the entire world the perfect Calendar. And once again it will be the energy of Nostos, of the return to the charm, strength and unsurpassed attractive and competitive capacity of its roots, the thin red thread and the engine of a new enterprise that at the same time presents itself as food and wine, tourism-experiential, cultural and territorial marketing.
The entrepreneurial and cultural initiative of BORGO ANTICO WINE RESTAURANT which will be inaugurated today, Saturday 29 June, takes shape in and from this magnetic humus, imbued with this renewed mission of social responsibility. in the heart of the historic center of Cirò, adjacent to the majestic Carafa Castle erected about a millennium ago and full of astronomical symbols. From 8pm there will be a ribbon cutting with a welcome tasting and the cutting of the artisanal tart with Gaglioppo mustard.
It will be one new emotional narrative, inspired body and soul by the great beauty of the historical and symbolic heritage of this mysterious perimeter of the Calabrian peninsula which was dominated by ancient Kroton; which saw as protagonists Pythagoras and Milo, Alcmaeon and Faillo, Lacinio, Leonardo di Bona and Gioacchino Greco; epic vineyard for the ancient Olympics, archaeological mine of absolute rarities like the Acrolith of Apollo Aleo, a geological section of global scientific interest with the Calabrian and Crotonian and a centuries-old spiritual land, guardian of the Sacred Thorns of Christ.

And to light and rekindle this true spark in the guest Grand Tour in the Magna Graecia feeling and for the lands of the Marquisatethe alchemical potion of Borgo Antico finally provides for the healthy abuse of powerful antiviruses against any manifestation of oicofobia: careful selection of seasonal, local and quality raw materials, starting from the flours; traditional dishes and authentic and genuine interpretations of the agri-food tradition; Calabrian wines and artisanal preparation according to a menu that changes from week to week, literally commanded by two home cooks.
The building, approximately 100 square meters, which will host and animate this new almost entirely female challenge led by Daniela Renzi, the same trace of many beautiful lived, family and business stories and which, going back through the centuries, most likely leads back to the ancient stables of the Castle, as well as a current niche used as a cellar, created under the first resurfaced floor, would allow one to deduce. Owned since the 1970s by Scigliano family who had purchased it upon their return as fellow countrymen from a long and important period of emigration for work in Germany, for almost half a century the building was home to a popular clothing, trousseau and clothing shop of the time owned by the Scigliano family themselves who were able to share an innate entrepreneurial spirit.
The property was then inherited and then recently subjected to architectural, functional and interior design redevelopment on the enthusiastic initiative of the children Pina and Enrico who, one a lawyer and the other an accountant, decided to get back into the game, rethinking their own education, vocation and profession and the intimate sense of a social commitment, in return (like their parents), drecovery, memory and also eco-sustainable development in one’s native land, to be reread, lived and then proposed with a completely new spirit and eyes.
WITH A TERRACE AT 350 METERS OVERLOOKING THE IONIAN SEA AND THE VINEYARDS
First and only Wine Restaurant in the prestigious historic center of Cirò, embellished both by a panoramic terrace overlooking the colors of the Ionian Sea and the characteristic vineyards that descend from the hills; or from a glass bar directly overlooking Piazza Stefano Pugliese, Borgo Antico enjoys a truly central position. It is, in fact, the best starting point for doing things experiential walks throughout the perimeter of what is a true open-air museum at 350 meters above sea level and overlooking all the neighboring municipalities of the Crotone hinterland. The goal is also to become a point of reference for the ever-growing network of local and territorial widespread hospitality.
It is, as if it were the window or the starting station for an intense emotional journey through timebefore or after its experiential proposal at the table: it is in fact, a few dozen meters from Porta Mavilia at the entrance to the City and from the Bastione Cannone, reachable by crossing the maze of narrow streets and alleys; a few minutes from the emblematic Piazza delle Libertà e della Legalità which a few years ago symbolically sanctioned the identity and cultural redemption of this community and its public institutions; from the restored Birthplace of the mathematician Luigi Lilio inventor of the Calendar and from that of San Nicodemo; less than 200 meters from the famous Palazzo dei Musei, a historic building belonging to the Zito family, in Piazza della Repubblica, which houses the Luigi Lilio National Museum, inaugurated in June 2010 by the then Mayor Mario Caruso in the presence of the Scientist Antonino Zichichi, the Museum of Wine and Peasant Civilization and the Museum dedicated to Giano Lacinio, the Franciscan theologian who revolutionized alchemy in the 16th century and for this reason, together with his contemporary Lilio, included among the Mid of Calabria, many of which (like those mentioned) inherited and preserved in the province of Crotone.
