Matera, tension over a suspicious package: the Carabinieri are mobilising

MATERA – Great tension today in Matera, with the police forces on maximum alert, coordinated by His Excellency the Prefect on the occasion of the Madonna della Bruna festivities.
This morning, a request for intervention arrived at the 112 operations center indicating the presence of a large trolley abandoned under a building in a difficult-to-reach location in Via Giustino Fortunato, near Via Lucana.
When the alarm was raised, the Carabinieri of the Operations Department and the Matera Company mobilized, requesting the immediate intervention of their Bomb Squad from Potenza, the Fire Brigade and a 118 ambulance, taking steps to reach the area that in the meantime had already been isolated by a Radiomobile patrol to prevent the passage of people and vehicles, also contacting the residents of the building where the trolley was located to have them close the windows and move away from the openings adjacent to the intervention area. The Bomb Squad immediately got to work, moving the trolley with tie rods to the street, where it was first inspected with the robot provided, and then proceeding to carry out a check of the contents using an X-ray device provided.
Fortunately, it was discovered that the trolley contained only some old abandoned clothes, without being able to trace their owner, so, once the alarm was raised, the road was reopened to traffic and the trolley was handed over to the lost property office of the Municipality of Matera.
Maximum vigilance continues on the part of the Carabinieri during these festive days, above all in order to allow Matera residents and tourists to enjoy the feast of the Madonna della Bruna in complete tranquility.
