The event “La Dama dei Castelli del Piemonte” returns to Pianezza after a three-year absence, this year reaching its fourth edition. It is a regional competition that, in previous editions, has always met with great success among the public and strong interest among fans of historical reenactments. An event of considerable historical, cultural and tourist importance, unique in its kind, which can be included among the most important historical events in Piedmont.
This year the election of the “Lady of the Castles of Piedmont” will be held Saturday 6 July to the ore 21 in Pianezza in the churchyard of Sanctuary of San Pancraziowhose façade will shine with special night lighting to make the setting of the event even more evocative.
The event is organized by Proloco in collaboration with the Municipality of Pianezza. «All Piedmontese municipalities that have a castle in their artistic and cultural heritage are invited to participate – explains the Mayor of Pianezza Antonio Castello –. The Ladies of the Castles from cities and towns throughout the regional territory will compete in this evocative competition.”
The event will begin at 7.30 pm with the medieval dinner organized by the Proloco of Pianezza.
At 9 pm the Historical Groups with their own banner will parade in Procession together with the Ladies around the entire churchyard of the Sanctuary. Then the Ladies, accompanied by the Mayor of their Municipality or by a knight in period costume, will perform in a parade on the stage for the competition, presenting the history of their Castle.
At 10.30pm there will be the SAND ART show curated by the artist Stefania Bruno, who participated in the finals of the broadcast “You are worth it” on Canale 5. Through the images created with sand on a giant screen, the story of the Marquis of Pianezza Giacinto Simiana who lived in the Sanctuary of San Pancrazio and who had Giovanna Grimaldi as his daughter-in-law will be told in an evocative and emotional way , from whom the current Prince Rainier of Monaco descends. «For this important kinship bond, which unites the Simiana Marquises to the ancestors of the Grimaldi family, Pianezza has become part of the prestigious association Grimaldi Historical Sites of Monaco» explains Pianezza’s Councilor for Culture Riccardo Gentile.
At the end of the evening the “Lady of the Castles of Piedmont 2024”. The jury will have to vote not only on the beauty of the Lady, but on her bearing, the elegance of the period costume and the figurative coherence with the historical period relating to the Castle of her municipality.
The “Lady of the Castles of Piedmont 2024” will receive a crown as a prize, which will have to be kept until the next edition and then entrusted to the next winner. In 2021 the Competition was won by the Lady of Susa Castle.
