A yellow tide will invade the streets, roads and squares of Piacenza. The start of the third stage of the Tour de France is getting closer and closer and citizens and traders are getting ready to experience an event of international caliber as protagonists.
We went to listen to sensations, emotions and even some light controversy of the eve between residents and workers along the via Emilia Pavese that from piazzale Torino to San Nicolò will be affected by the passage of the Tour on Monday 1st July. Most of them consider it a great opportunity for the Piacenza area to host such an important sporting event, third only to the Olympics and the World Cup.

“We will stay open hoping to welcome as many fans as possible” says a bartender. “It will be a great party and despite some bearable inconveniences we can’t complain, but only try to seize the opportunity in the best way possible” says another shopkeeper. “We are lucky to have the shop overlooking the route – explains a young man who works in the Sant’Antonio area – We will stay open and since we sell sports goods we also feel super pertinent”.
“We will watch the Tour pass together from the window” say two beautiful ladies we met in front of a shop. “When the Giro d’Italia passed I threw roses towards the cyclists, this time I will applaud together with my friend” one of them confides to us. “Why should we complain? It’s a beautiful and unique thing for our city” continues the neighbor.
Changes to traffic
As of 2.30pm today, the ban on parking comes into force in the streets affected by the Tour de France, from 8.00 to 14.00 the traffic ban. 4,500 people will arrive in Piacenza including cyclists, organizers, technical staff, advertising caravan staff and journalists. To these must be added the approximately 20 thousand people estimated as an audience. A great sports festival, a great showcase for the entire territory.
