PADUA – The Prosecutor’s Office has closed the investigation into feud between Albanians of July 23rd of last year in the quiet neighborhood of Forcellini. The public prosecutor Claudia Brunino, who replaced the deputy prosecutor Roberto Piccione now in force in Venice, has asked for the indictment for the brothers Ilmi and Klinton Rakipaj aged 25 and 20 respectively.
The two are accused ofvoluntary homicide of his compatriot Albert Deda, aged 24, and of the attempted murder of two other Albanians aged 27 and 28. Furthermore, he was also accused of carrying a bladed weapon in public. On July 9th they will be before the Gup Elena Lazzarin, the judge will decide whether to send them to trial or not.
The motive
At first the investigators delved into the lives of the attackers and victims in the belief of finding links to the drug world. The police searched the cell phones and checked the bank accounts. But nothing anomalous emerged, on the contrary: all young people without criminal records and workers. Then it was thought that so much violence had exploded because of a woman. In short, the classic motive of jealousy. Instead this track was also a failure.
In the end the massacre on Via Dorighello in the building at number 8 took place because of one person sgarro: the failure of the two brothers to host their fellow countryman who had arrived in Italy the day before. Hospitality is sacred for Albanians and is one of the foundations of the Kanun customary law code dating back to the Middle Ages. Thus, 24-year-old Deda was hit with a fatal stab to the heart to follow the application of an ancient oral law still in vogue especially among the mountain communities in Albania.
The facts
That Sunday Deda would have shown up at number 8 in via Dorighello ringing the apartment where he himself was formally resident, but where he had not lived for some time. Instead, some compatriots lived there, including the two Rakipajs. Ilmi and Deda in particular knew each other well, because they had rented that accommodation together in 2018. However, that day the victim would have brought there a 19enne just arrived in Italy, asking to place him in the house. This would have generated a clear refusal by the Rakipajs and a consequent argument. Deda would have initially gone away, then come back supported by the two friends aged 27 and 28. However, they had found Ilmi and Klinton waiting for them in the entrance hall and there the slaughter using a kitchen knife.
Immediately after the massacre, the two brothers got into a red Renault Clio and fled towards the Slovenian border to seek refuge in the Balkans. In almost seven hours, they travelled 146 kilometres from Padua to the A4 toll booth at Villesse, in the Gorizia area, where the two brothers were arrested a few minutes before 9 pm. Ilmi and Klinton were wearing a pair of T-shirts they had just bought, with the labels still on, but their shoes were smeared with blood, as well as the steering wheel and interior of the car. They surrendered and were taken to the Gorizia traffic police headquarters where they were grilled all night and confessed.
