Firenze (A. Pan.) – The hug of Firenze to cyclists and to Tour de France. Great enthusiasm for the most important cycling stage race in the world, with the city of Firenze adorned with giallo. The streets of the center are a single color: yellow. And Piazza Duomo brings back images of the champions of yesterday and today.

This morning the Grande Boucle takes off from Tuscany, the first time in Italy and in homage to Gino Bartali and to the Italian champions. In Florence, Bartali is celebrated, who won the Tour in 1934 and 1948, while tomorrow in Romagna, with the departure from Cesenatico, homage will be paid to the “Pirate”, Marco Pantani who triumphed in Paris in 1998 and on Monday in Piacenza the first Italian triumph in the Tour will be celebrated, that of Ottavio Bottecchia a hundred years after that success which at the time was called the “Tour of France”, therefore Fausto Coppi who won the Tour in 1949 and 1952.

Many champions who have been remembered in recent days in Florence with photos and films showing the successes of Italian cyclists at the Tour del France.

Now the Italian hopes are in two Italian cyclists, Alberto Bettiol (EF Education-EasyPost) e Luca Mozzato (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) who during the presentation days brought enthusiasm back to Italian cycling and today to the first stage Florence-Rimini – they will do battle. After the first three Italian stages, the fourth stage will enter France and will propose the Galibier, while the grand finale will be at Nice, Sunday, July 21, is the first time that the Tour du France will travel far from Paris.

Reason: the Olympic Games which will start in Paris on July 26th.
