Pesaro, June 29, 2024 – Scams targeting the elderly are almost always successful, but sometimes the opposite happens. It is the victim who hits the scammer, handing him over to the police. As happened in recent days in Pesaro. A retired lady with the house in the center he received a phone call from a guy who pretended to be a policeman: “Madam, your son had an accident and was arrested. To release him, you would have to pay a large sum. We can send one of our agents to collect or whatever is valuable. I will remain on the line.”
The lady, aware of the many scams of these monthsshe made sure to make people believe she had fallen into the trap but in reality she has called the police saying he had a scammer on the line and that a c would be arriving in a few minutesaccomplice to take the money.
The lady was sure of what she was saying since the story she had been told on the phone couldn’t have been true. Indeed the lady has no children. So, the police arrived in a hurry in civilian clothes at the lady’s house, an officer entered the house and waited for the arrival of the fraudster who had to pose as a policeman in order to recover the necessary sum. As soon as he showed up, he asked for the money as agreed on the phone with his accomplice who was in fact still on the landline.
But immediately after, the officers came out, both the one in the house and the one outside. blocking the scammer. Who was then taken into the house and put in contact with the accomplice on the line to whom he told in Campania that he had ruined him and had him arrested. In reality, taken to the police station for identification, the young man was reported free for attempted fraud and was served with a mandatory deportation order from Pesaro with a ban on returning.
His name has been reported as a member of the gangs that go around throughout Italy to defraud especially the elderly. But this time it was a scammer who fell into the trap thanks to a detail: the victim had no children and therefore could not have one to be “freed” by paying.
