Port fire drill, organized by the Coast Guard of Viareggio to verify the preparation and operational readiness of all port resources to deal with emergency situations.
The drill was activated by the Operations Room of the Port Authority at 10 am, immediately after receiving the report of the beginning of a fire at the Sandorino dock, by the personnel of the company Sa.Si.t., concessionaire of the dock. The hypothesized scenario saw both the employees of the same concessionaire company actively operating with their fire-fighting equipment – for the first intervention – and subsequently the Fire Brigade, the Authorities and the Bodies responsible for managing the emergency.
The safety procedures foreseen by the port fire prevention plan were implemented in a short time, under the coordination of the Operations Room of the Port Authority of Viareggio which immediately ordered the exit of the SAR CP 813 patrol boat to provide assistance from the sea, and the use of the GC A78 fast boat to block traffic in the area. Furthermore, the Fire Brigade and the Green Cross were alerted via the 112 service, as well as the local police and the Regional Port Authority.
At the end of the exercise, a debriefing was held with all the participating actors, where the aspects and critical issues that affected the event were analyzed with respect to the emergency plans and protocols in force.
The Command of the Port Authority of Viareggio expressed attestations of esteem and appreciation towards all the subjects who participated in the exercise, thanking them for the efforts constantly made to keep all the available resources always ready and prepared, and highlighting the importance of the dialogue and spirit of collaboration that to date have characterized the relationships between all the institutions of Versilia.
