The new parking plan has received the green light from the Fiumicino City Council which approved a variant developed on the basis of the studies and evaluations provided by the Public Works and Urban Maintenance Area.
There is controversy between the majority and the opposition over the new urban parking plan for paid parking
The changes accepted by the assembly, with the relative localization of the paid parking areas to support traffic flow and a change in the urban planning standards of the territory, had obtained the favorable opinion of the Public Works Commission of the local authority on May 30th.
There are 5018 paid parking spaces that will have a direct impact also towards tourists and holidaymakers in seaside and shopping areascompared to the 4239 free parking spacesoverall distributed across the following locations in the airport municipality.

The reasons for yes and the reasons for no
“The demographic increase of the last ten years and the flow of vehicles from the cities towards our seaside resorts have caused considerable problems for mobility, especially during the summer season and at weekends. -underlines the councilor for public works Giovanna Onorati- for this reason we have deemed it necessary to set up additional paid and unpaid parking areas”.
“The new parking plan is based on areas designated for public parking, already owned by the Municipality, and aims to increase the number of parking areas, according to the percentages and standards defined by the Highway Code. It is essential to ensure a fair and functional distribution of parking to meet the needs of residents and visitors ” concluded the Councilor.
The opposition, however, speaks out against the new measures that through the voice of the Democratic Party, Ezio Di Genesio Pagliuca points the finger at a “measure that we could have shared if it did not activate the blue lines wherever it did not denote the desire to make money and not to bring order by facilitating the lives of citizens, residents and non-residents”.
“This is demonstrated by the fact that paid parking will cover Fregene and the entire Maccarese seafront”.
“Furthermore, no concessions were provided for workers and residents, nor for vehicles with low environmental impact such as hybrid cars, nor was information given on how to pay the tariffs. It is not clear why blue lines were not also activated in Focene and Passoscuro. It deals with -concludes the Dem representative- of the umpteenth wicked action of this administration, which continues not to respect its citizens”.
