From today, you can also request and renew your passport at the Post Office. At the moment, this service is not available everywhere, but in the offices of Forlimpopoli, Dovadola and Verghereto, at least in the province of Forlì-Cesena. It will then be extended to all locations as per the Polis project program, which aims to transform post offices into the ‘home of digital services’: a one-stop shop to make access to public administration services simple and fast. Citizens of the three locations can therefore go to the post office, if they make an appointment via the app or the website they can also skip the queues, and start all the procedures for requesting or renewing their passport. Of course, the Police Headquarters will have to carry out all the necessary checks, but then citizens will have the document delivered directly to their homes within about fifteen days.
“It is an honor for us to be a trailblazer,” said Mayor Milena Garavini at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new service. The counter staff have been trained to minimize any requests from the Police Headquarters for documents and photos.
Also present at the inauguration was the Police Commissioner, Claudio Mastromattei, who pointed out how the long waiting lists to access the passport which had so alarmed citizens in recent years had almost been eliminated. “To deal with the emergency, we have strengthened the service – he stated –, for the ordinary procedure, the appointment can be scheduled after just two weeks, for the urgent one, the following day”. A curiosity then, regarding the years of the pandemic and the ‘race for passports’. “At a certain point it almost seemed like there was a fear of not being able to have the document – he said – and therefore, even if you didn’t really need it, you asked for it anyway. At the moment we have a thousand passports in stock , requested but never withdrawn”. For the avoidance of doubt, from today there is the further possibility of requesting the same from the Post Office.
