On 28 June 2024, the Guardia di Finanza concluded an investigation coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Avellino with the preventive seizure of over five million euros from a road haulage company, accused of undue tax compensation between 2018 and 2022. According to investigators, the company – which was not named – used tax credits declared for research and development projects.

The evidence collected includes an opinion from the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, which showed the absence of the innovation requirement necessary to obtain tax benefits for four of the declared projects. Further evidence came from the risk analysis of the Campania Regional Directorate of the Revenue Agency and from the examination of the acquired documentation. Furthermore, the testimonies of the employees involved in the projects would have helped to outline a clear picture of the fraud. Furthermore, the company would have included in the tax credits irrelevant costs, unrelated expenses and services obtained from companies that issued invoices for non-existent transactions.
