(LaPresse) Police operation in the provinces of Barletta-Andria Trani and Foggia: over 30 people arrested and reported for criminal association aimed at theft, receiving stolen goods and recycling of cars. The dismantled criminal system was dedicated to the theft of cars, carried out simultaneously by several operational “batteries”, capable of stealing up to four vehicles per night. Subsequently, the stolen cars were transported to compliant car dismantlers, mainly in the Cerignolano area, where they were dismantled to make them disappear once and for all. Technical activities revealed that many thefts were carried out on commission, with precise indications on the model and technical specifications of the vehicles. In one interception, for example, the type of headlight of the vehicle to be stolen was discussed. On other occasions, using the term “pizzas”, the number of cars was agreed upon. The suspects, also using advanced technologies to evade the interventions of the police, such as frequency jammers (jammers), environmental and telephone reclamations, who between December 2023 and May 2024 carried out 45 thefts of cars, all large-engined cars with an economic value total of approximately 1,500,000 euros. Inspections are underway on various car dismantlers to ascertain the regularity of the dismantling and resale activities of used car parts.
