BRINDISI – A review of theater and music. The second edition of “Verdi in Città” is underway, a program of live performances that the Municipality of Brindisi and the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese – in collaboration with the Fondazione Nuovo Teatro Verdi and the Polo Biblio-Museale di Brindisi – are organizing in Brindisi between July and August, outlining a scenario of outdoor theater. All the shows will be held at 9 pm in Piazza Duomo in the space in front of the “Ribezzo” archaeological museum, except for the concert at dawn on August 11. The events were presented during a press conference that took place this morning, in the presence of the mayor Giuseppe Marchionna, the project director of Brindisi’s candidacy for Italian Capital of Culture 2027, Chris Torch, the director of the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, Sante Levante, and the artistic director of the Nuovo Teatro Verdi, Carmelo Grassi.

It begins Friday, July 12 with Gaetano Colella in “Icarus fallen”, directed by Enrico Messina. The show is the story of what happens after the fatal fall: after the crash into the sea Icarus does not die.

Second appointment Thursday 18 July with “Cinema, Music, Jazz”. The magical atmosphere of a candlelit concert will frame the square for a multisensory musical experience of great beauty and suggestion. At the center of the evening a trio, formed by Lisa Manosperti (vocals), Mino Lacitignola (trumpet) and Andrea Gargiulo (keyboards), with a program dedicated to the soundtracks of the most famous films in the history of cinema.

Friday 26 July Alessio Vassallo takes the stage with “The Great Gatsby”, the eccentric, enigmatic and extremely sophisticated protagonist of the 1925 novel by Francis Scott Fitzgerald. The story of Jay Gatsby unfolds through the voice of the narrator Nick Carraway.

Silvia Lodi plays Nilde Iotti in “Nilde mia”, a show scheduled Friday 2 August, written and directed by Paola Leone. The first female President of the Chamber of Deputies is awakened by the voices of a procession of women chanting feminist slogans. This is the excuse to bring back to life even just for fifty minutes a woman born one hundred years ago, who still has a lot to tell us.

Domenico Clemente brings on stage Friday 9th August “Heroes, Men & Gods”, a journey through time, between land and sea, through five thousand years of stories, myths and legends that speak of impostor and disrespectful Gods, of lazy and mythomaniac heroes, of desperate and braggart men.

Become Sunday 11th August, starting at 5, the traditional dawn concert (the sun will rise at 5.55). This year’s designated location is the Scalinata Virgilio. It will be Antonio Di Lorenzo on drums and Davide Saccomanno on keyboards, with special guest Jodie Gentile on vocals, who will bring the beauty of the awakening of light and the vibrations of author’s music into the silence of dawn.

The concert of Maggiore and Pagliara, voice and piano, Friday 16 August brings to light a new work of unpublished songs and musical quotes inspired by the seafaring tradition of the city of Brindisi of which Franco Romanelli, shipwright of the Vogatori Remuri, and a group of local children gathered around the project “The city that isn’t there”, conducted with the contribution of singer-songwriter Paola Petrosillo and the support of the Eridano social cooperative.
